This 2017 Ford Edge came into Stereo Sales for a radio upgrade. The factory screen came out and a Sony XAV-AX8500 went in, with a big floating screen that sits up over the dash.

The radio

Getting to the factory radio in the Edge means taking apart a good chunk of the dash and center console. Once the factory screen was out, Zach mounted the iDatalink KIT-MFT1 dash kit and we wired the Sony in through an iDatalink Maestro RR. The Maestro is what lets an aftermarket radio talk to the Ford's computer, so the factory climate panel stays in place below and keeps working the way the owner is used to. The XAV-AX8500 brings Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to a much bigger screen.

The speakers

While we were in there, the factory door speakers came out and a pair of JL Audio C1-650x 6.5" coaxials went in. The door panels went back on clean, so it still looks stock from the outside, just with a lot better sound.

Want a bigger screen and better sound in your ride? Come see us at Stereo Sales.
