My uncle wrote a sci-fi novel: Shylzan Exodus

This one isn't a build, but I'm proud of it. My uncle co-wrote a science fiction novel, published under the pen names Luc and Maggie Wise, and it's out October 20. Both authors are U.S. Navy veterans, and you can feel that in how they handle the politics and the military side of the story.

What it's about

The planet Shylzan is dying. Generations of war, political backstabbing and a spreading wasteland called the Desolation have left it on its last legs, and what's left of its people are getting ready to leave it behind and scatter across the stars. The story follows Captain Aria Visher, a young military leader and the granddaughter of one of the people who planned the Exodus. She has to hold together a shaky coalition of rival clans, worn-down soldiers and desperate civilians while raiders push in on the borders and the clock runs out.

The real danger is the people themselves. Two of the big clans, the Lee and the Choi, have a blood feud going back more than two thousand years, and both are about to lead colonies to new worlds. Everyone is wondering whether that hatred follows them into space. Add a centuries-old spiritual leader sending her operatives into the wasteland, a clan that works from the shadows, and a legendary warrior trying to live quietly on a new world, and nobody is without secrets.

The book is told in twelve episodes, each one counting down the last days before the Exodus, so it reads like a good TV series. If you like Dune, Battlestar Galactica, Firefly or Babylon 5, this is right up your alley.
