Number nine in my personal collection, and the start of my Ohtani run: Shohei Ohtani's World Talent card from 2018 Allen & Ginter, #WT-24, graded a 9 Mint by TAG.
The card
Allen & Ginter is Topps' throwback set, styled after tobacco cards from the 1880s. The World Talent insert honors players from outside the U.S., and Ohtani's has the Japan flag on a pole, a globe wrapped in a WORLD TALENT / JAPAN banner, and a painted-look Ohtani in his Angels uniform. It's a horizontal card with the RC logo in the corner, from his rookie year.
Why it matters
Ohtani came over from Japan in 2018 as the first real two-way star in about a hundred years, pitching and hitting. He won Rookie of the Year that season, and since then he's added multiple MVP awards, the first 50-homer, 50-steal season in 2024, and a World Series ring with the Dodgers. A card that's all about Japan fits him perfectly.
The grade
TAG grades with computer imaging and posts a full report for every card, with close-ups of the corners, edges and surface. This one came back a 9 Mint with no flaws flagged on the corners, edges or surface. As of October 2026 TAG has graded six of these, only two got a 9, and mine is the 2nd highest of those.
