Number twelve in my personal collection, and my first TAG 10: Shohei Ohtani's rookie card from 2018 Topps Gallery, #116, graded a 10 Gem Mint.
The card
Topps Gallery is the set where every card is a painting instead of a photo. Ohtani's is a painted portrait of him in the white Angels home jersey and red cap, holding his bat across his chest against a dark background, with Shohei in script and OHTANI in big block letters across the bottom. The RC logo is in the corner and the white border has a wavy texture.
Why it matters
It's a true rookie card from his first season, and the painted style makes it stand out from the photo cards. Ohtani won Rookie of the Year that season and has turned into the biggest star in the game since.
The grade
TAG grades with computer imaging and posts a full report for every card, with close-ups of the corners, edges and surface. This one came back a 10 Gem Mint. The corners and edges are clean, with one tiny ink spot flagged on the front, and the centering is 54/46 on the front.
